Rotherham report: council staff failed to act on abuse for fear of being called racists

Whitehall-appointed commissioners are to take over Rotherham council after a report exposed a culture of complete denial about the town’s child sexual exploitation scandal as well as “bullying, sexism, suppression and misplaced ‘political correctness”’.

The damning report found that men of Pakistani origin were allowed to abuse hundreds of young white girls in the town in part because council staff were terrified of being labelled racist if they challenged the sex crimes.

  1. So, now the Government has ‘taken over’ Rotherham Borough Council, and knowing how much the Government has previously covered up its own sexual pecadiloes against children, what possible confidence can anyone have, that the ‘government people’ will actually sort out – rather than cover up – the mess?

And who is coming in to sort through South Yorkshire Police Force, which was also heavily involved in this disgraceful mess?

So far, following many many years of refusal to act, one (1) police constable seems to have been thrown to the wolves. What of the most senior officers, one of whom had placed himself on the Board at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and another is still in place as Chairman at Barnsley Children’s Safeguarding Board?

  2. Exactly. How the hell can RMBC be considered ‘not fit for purpose’ if SYP is allowed to continue as it is? SYP is equally culpable and should be treated the same – commissioners sent in, and Louise Casey to do her thing.
