Press Review Thursday 20 Novenber 2014

After all yesterday’s Ofsted activity I’ve as yet found little in the Press today regarding Rotherham..
Much in the press though about today’s Rochester by-election and rumours of 2 more Tory MPs defecting to UKIP.
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/nov/19/mps-tory-party-fear-defect-to-ukip
and a very interesting (to me at least) article in the FT
http://blogs.ft.com/off-message/2014/11/19/the-void-in-british-politics/
and from Lord Ashcroft:

There is a very odd piece in the Sheffield Star, headlined “South Yorkshire is ‘fifth poorest’ region in Northern Europe – data.”
with no data and a picture of an unknown female.
http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/south-yorkshire-is-fifth-poorest-region-in-northern-europe-data-1-6962164
Here is where you can find the data – published more than a month ago:

The Rotherham Advertiser has updated its on-line Readers Letters section and also features a story saying that
Caroline Flint MP has backed Labour’s new bill to repeal the government’s competition rules and the bill will be introduced by Labour MP Clive Efford on Monday Nov 21 2014.

Is this the Private Members Bill of Clive Effort, that was presented to Parliament through the ballot procedure on 2 July 2014? That is certainly going to have its 2nd reading next Monday.
See: http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2014-15/nationalhealthserviceamendeddutiesandpowers.html
and then look at this:

  1. I apologise for putting this on this thread but wasn’t where else to raise this. Just thought some readers might be interested in the fact that yesterday the new Police and Crime Commissioner together with Chief Constable David Crompton attended the Police and Crime Panel meeting at the Town Hall where the main issue discussed was scrutiny. The meeting was filmed and is available on Rmbc webcast. Unfortunately, the first 6 minutes is silenced as apparently they experienced problems with the sound.
