Should the Labour Party not retire their dinosaurs, at this years selection contest, the electorate informed of this, will very likely retire them with their votes! Or rather lack of them. Remember Rawmarsh!

The real lesson of the Labour Rawmarsh disaster, is the electorate will no longer be taken for granted, by the very party they have formerly trusted!

They want fresh principled councillors to represent them, not the tired leftovers from a bygone era! They must go, for Labour to retain any credibility at the ballot box.

  1. Gerald Smith has told everyone that he wants another four years!
If true, the Holderness Labour Party know how to organise to get rid of a dinosaur. Gerald Smith himself, taught them last year! Let’s hope they dump him come selection, later this year? They would be doing Rotherham a great service by so doing.

  2. Surely it is better to play these people at their own game and try and deslect them, rather than have an independent taking on a Labour candidate who has all the resources of that party to support them! I loathe Judas Labour at both national and local level, but if there was enough similar minded people, I who have never been a member of a political party, would be prepared to join the Labour party with the sole intention of deselcting Asbo! I would then resign from it if we managed to get rid of this unprincipled person!

    • Malcontent your right lets get this scum of our streets once and for all, having read on previous comments you have to be a member of labour party over six months to vote on shortlisting.
We need to find out when the short listing is for West ward and lets get rid of this disease once and for all.

  3. Jo Burton cannot make up her mind. First, she is not going to stand again then she might stand again. Her seat depends on how desperate Robin Stonebridge is to be re-elected as a Borough Councillor.
The Labour party in Anston has introduced the highest precept in the Borough, perhaps they think we haven’t noticed? Anston Labour councillors spout the Labour party line about ‘the cuts’ and yet Councillor Judy Dalton wants to spend £500 (of our money) on a ‘Badge of Office’ for whoever is Parish Council Chairman. You couldn’t make it up
Anston PC spends £8000 on the annual fireworks display and £2000 on flowers and plants to make the village look attractive. Nothing wrong with that you might say, however if the Labour dominated council had even the remotest idea of saving money they would get the fireworks display and flowers and plants sponsored by commercial organisations. It can be done and is done in other parts of South Yorkshire.
The upsurge in candidates standing as both Independents and UKIP is a wake up call to electors and the Labour party. It is time to stop the rot.

  4. People are fedup with UKIP in Rawmarsh people want a change just now.
I spoke to alot of people, they said they are fedup and just realize the UKIP policy I think Calvin vines seat is in danger next, because people are realizing what UKIP is all about with the racist immigration policy by sending immigrants back that were born here.
Ukip r also totally against multiculturalism who don’t want to integrate with the community, people that voted for UKIP r realizing now in Rawmarsh they saying Calvin vines policy are against what he wrote on his manifesto as he is contradicting his views on immigration.

    • People are equally fed up with the Labour Party, which was presumably the reason the voters elected a non-labour councillor in Rawmarsh when given the opportunity.
What happens in the local elections in 2014, is any ones guess at this point, but political party policy is being reviewed by all parties and therefore discussion of policy, is perhaps, premature?

    • ‘People are fed up with UKIP in Rawmarsh’
‘I spoke to a lot of people’
When did you conduct this ‘research’?
How many is ‘a lot’ of people?
I’m glad freedom of speech is still allowed, even if it is complete tosh!
You haven’t got the courage to give your name after posting, frightened the Labour party will cancel your membership if they know who you are?
If you are going to post let me suggest you back up your statements with facts, not wild allegations and suppositions.

  5. Richard Russell the Councillor for Rother Vale Ward, formerly of Hoober Ward until deselected there in 2009, is heading for de-selection again by his ward party for a record second time, later this year.
We understand that members are deeply unhappy about his performance, or rather lack of it!
They are not in the mood to be conned again! Expect change, any news? Email Rothpol, thanks.

  6. For Colin Tawn,
Slight correction to your figures Colin, the cost of the flowers is not £2000, but more in the region of £6000. Figures relating to the Chairman`s chain of office have been mentioned as high as £900. All the Labour Party members on Anston Parish Council were in agreement to keep the money set aside for the chain, but still voted to make cuts to the general budget. Shows what the thinking is, cut the services, keep all that glitters. I have been against Anston taxpayers paying for a chain of office, If you want to show who you are at meetings etc, show people your identification badge, and say my name is,…… simple and cost effective.

  7. Apologies for misinformation. I was given the figures by a third party who I thought was in possession of the correct figures.
More interestingly perhaps I would be grateful if you or anyone else can tell me the answers to the following questions:
Who sanctioned and agreed the cost of flowers?
Was this put out to tender?
Has any private company been invited to sponsor the flowers, the maintenance and watering?

Other than preservation of her ego what does Labour councillor Judy Dalton hope to gain from proposing wasting our money on a chain of office? An OBE, applause from RMBC or a pat on the back from her Labour cronies?

We should remember that Labour politicians always run out of other peoples money.

  8. Any working class voter who votes for UKIP can only be compared to Turkeys voting for Christmass.
UKIP want to take away any rights that the employee has, hence their stance against the EUCHR, which, alone, has held back the attacks on worker rights by the Tories in the past and carry out the Thatcherite aim of putting the working class in their place.

As Labour did by allowing unrestricted immigration as part of its policies to drive down wages?
According to Ed Miliband’s policy chief Jon Cruddas, Labour used migration “to introduce a covert 21st century incomes policy”
What were you saying about Thatcherite policy?

      More research, less hyperbole..

  11. I believe a figure of around £1,500 was mentioned for the chairman”s chain. Judy Dalton wants an enamelled lapel pin made for each councillor by FATTORINIS no less!!! Well it’s our money, so it doesn’t matter, she doesn’t live in the Ward.

Go Judy Go – To your own Ward.
